(scroll down for the English version)
Eu nu-i pot crede însă pe acești exaltați.
El n-are nicio perspectivă, are doar proiecții.
Căci are nevoie să te creadă.

Living Politically (English version)
When you are trapped in the political present, obsessed with the immediate struggles of the day, when you are unable to see yourself or the world outside the lens of political categories, you inevitably end up being—or if you’re not already—a leftist. You are left-wing regardless of which side you claim to be on. You are left-wing because you believe that everything you breathe, eat, f**k, write, and think carries political weight and must therefore be judged by political criteria. You are left-wing when all your deep disappointments—shouted on X and Facebook—are political frustrations connected (in a way or another) to the state. In short, you are left-wing when nothing about your being remains uncontaminated by politics.
The idea is not new. I think Gramsci said that a leftist is a product of political culture. In Romania, under communism, everyone was compelled to express themselves politically—whether actively or silently. Every quiet, intimate moment with your close ones was political. Even the dreams people dreamed at night were political. Nothing human escaped untouched.
And now, how little has changed! Every day, people shout: “How can you not express yourself when so much injustice surrounds you? How can you ignore the suffering? How can you not dedicate your life to destroying Putin or exposing Brussels’s shady dealings?” If you don’t tear your hair out over this—or whichever cause, really—on social media, then, they say, you deserve your fate as a slave, a useful idiot, a brainwashed fool. The silence or indifference makes you complicit; a shrug is an endorsement of tyranny.
That is why, even if you say you are on the right, your disappointments and frustrations—those loud, public criticisms of the state, the system, the authorities—make you a left-wing spirit: your entire identity becomes entangled in the political, the social, the ideological. Nothing about you remains untouched by the game of power; your soul is already woven into this fabric.
I find it hard to trust these political figures on social media. I don’t believe them even when I agree with them. I know people whose personal lives are in shambles, people with unbearable chaos in their lives, but who have become, on Facebook, self-proclaimed experts in domestic and foreign affairs. Day in and day out, from the depths of their powerlessness and anxiety, they plot and sketch out the world’s fate. They have more than information—they have wit, morality, mantras, anger, slogans, and links. And who rewards them with likes and shares, blocks and insults? Not the world, but others just like them. They recognise each other instantly, no algorithms needed. They cannot get enough of one another because they need to legitimise each other’s excessive interest in the state of the world. They shout and dig through the world, but God knows how long they’ve been living beneath its surface.
All these people – spiritually desolate, monomaniacs, insomniacs, paranoics, hysterics, the whole army of psychopaths – spend every waking hour trying to arrange the world. They understand how history unfolds and how international relations should function, yet they have no idea how to avoid destroying themselves and those close to them. A person who lies on the couch, consumed with political issues from daybreak to dusk, cannot be politically credible.
He is consumed with projections, not reality. In truth, it’s quite simple: when you’ve abandoned yourself, you’ve abandoned your world. If you’re not paying attention to what’s happening around you—at home, in your immediate circle of friends and community—you end up living in a constructed political bubble. What’s left to do? Become a Facebook expert on it.
I find it rather sad.
Of course, emergencies demand action. And there are political emergencies—these are never in short supply. Of course, it is always justified to shout, to highlight every urgency, to right every wrong, to slay every hydra, to create petitions and podcasts, to cry and roll on the floor. Not literally, mind you; people gladly take your word for it, “on hashtag’s honour.” They need to believe. The spirit of rebellion is extraordinarily contagious… we are inherently sensitive to the idea of injustice. It’s woven into our very fibre, into the fabric of the Christian world. That’s why communism cannot be eradicated. It works with the client’s materials and absolute values. It is irresistible.
I am not advocating for civic indifference. A responsible and sane person doesn’t turn a blind eye when they find irregularities in society. They call them out by their names (assuming they know them), not in a month, or a year, or ten years, but right there and then, when it matters, taking risks. If they are also clever, they provide arguments, engage in open debates, and analyse situations, figures, and patterns. You cannot focus on arguments when obsessed with being on the offensive.
You cannot. You lack perspective. You can’t bring anything substantial to the debate when you’re filled with nerves, anger, and spit on your chin. With shouting, you can gather followers on Facebook and pull yourself together when you don’t know which way to turn in the morning, but you cannot engage in any proper dialogue.
Those obsessed with political causes are ineffective in political debates, despite their vast knowledge and total dedication.
Ordinary people, absorbed in their own matters, who don’t spend their days bickering online, often make more pertinent political and economic observations than these “experts”. Precisely because they’re not trying to impress followers or fit into an ideological mould; they simply think about the problem they are facing. They think about their own problems, their families’ and friends’. “Mind your own business” doesn’t mean neglecting your country and planet; it means living on all the levels that a human being is meant to live, because politics is a part of life, not life itself.

Așadar, încercările de a schimba lumea nu vor schimba lumea. :) Ce ne rămâne, în aceste condiții? Probabil, frumosul.
